The Jharkhand Advocates’ Welfare Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2023, was introduced in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on August 2,2023. It amends the Jharkhand Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 2012. The Act constitutes a welfare fund for advocates in the state.
Stamps on Vakalatnama and affidavits: Under the Act, a welfare stamp of a value of Rs 15 must be affixed on every Vakalatnama or affidavit. The Bill increases the welfare stamp value to Rs 30. A Vakalatnama is a document that empowers an advocate to appear or plead on behalf of a client in any court.
