HRD Ministry Issues Directions for Central Educational Institutions for Implementation of Reservation for the OBCs

All Central Educational Institutions except those exempted have to implement the 27 per cent quota for OBCs apart from 15 per cent for SCs and 7.5 per cent for STs from this academic session.

Mineral policy cleared a month ago, but changes to Act hard to come by

The National Mineral Policy was cleared by the Cabinet in March.  However, the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Act has not yet been amended to implement the policy.

Supreme Court upholds law for 27% OBC quota

The Supreme Court upheld the law that reserves 27% of the seats for candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes in Central higher educational institutions.  But it excluded the ‘creamy layer’.

Cabinet may clear Road Safety Bill this week

The National Road Safety Bill, which seeks to establish Road Safety Boards both at the Centre and in states, is likely to be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval next week.

The Cabinet approved for introduction the Pesticides Management Bill, 2008 in the Parliament by replacing the existing Insecticides Act, 1968.

Govt plans tough law to check workers exploitation overseas

The government plans to amend the Emigration Act, 1983 during the next session of Parliament to bring stringent measures to prevent the smuggling of people and regulate the trade.

Radical proposals in new education bill

According to the draft Right to Education Bill all schools in India will have to admit at least 25% students from the neighbourhood and a standard shall be set for schools.

Parliament passes Bill on JIPMER Puducherry

The Bill seeks to make Puducherry-based Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research a medical institute of national importance and grant adequate financial powers to it.
