The Kerala Bamboo, Kattuvalli and Pandanus Leaf Workers’ Welfare Fund (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020

  • The Kerala Bamboo, Kattuvalli and Pandanus Leaf Workers’ Welfare Fund (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 was promulgated on July 3, 2020.  It amends the Kerala Bamboo, Kattuvalli and Pandanus Leaf Workers’ Welfare Fund Act, 1998.  The Act sets up a Fund to: (i) grant relief to, (ii) promote welfare of, and (iii) pay pension to workers and employed persons in the Bamboo, Kattuvalli and Pandanus Leaf industries.  The Ordinance amends the amount of monthly contribution to the Fund made by the workers, employers, and the government.
     
  • Contribution to the FundThe Act provides for a contribution of seven rupees per month, each, to the Fund by every: (i) worker, (ii) self-employed person, and (iii) employer and producer in respect of every worker.  Further, the state government shall annually contribute to the Fund an amount equal to the total contribution by the workers and self-employed persons.  The Ordinance enhances the contribution of every worker, self-employed person, and employer to fifteen rupees per month.  It also reduces the government’s contribution to the Fund to 75% of the amount contributed by the workers and self-employed persons.
