• The Rajasthan Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was introduced in the Rajasthan Assembly on February 25, 2021.  It amends the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.  The Act consolidates laws related to the Panchayati Raj institution in Rajasthan, and establishes the Rajasthan Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Service.  Members of the Service are recruited district-wise at the state level.

  • Designation of village workersThe Act divides the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Service into different categories.  These include: (i) village level workers, (ii) gramsevikas, and (iii) primary and upper primary school teachers.  The Bill renames village level worker as Gram Vikas Adhikari.  It also removes the category of gramsevikas, since the post does not exist in Panchayati Raj institutions.
