The results of the elections to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly were declared on March 2, 2023. There are 60 assembly seats in the state.  In this note, we analyse data on the profile of the incoming Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and compare it with the previous Assembly.

NDPP has highest representation with 25 seats; NPF’s seat share reduces from 26 to 2

Female MLAs elected for the first time; proportion of older MLAs increases

  • Since 1964, only 1% of all contestants to Legislative Assembly elections in Nagaland have been women.  Hekani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse are the first women to be elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

Number of MLAs with at least a post graduate degree increases
