Profile of the 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly

Results of the election to the 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly were declared on June 4, 2024.  The Assembly has 175 seats.  This note compares the profiles of the incoming Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) with that of the previous term of the Assembly.

TDP wins the majority with 77% seats in the Assembly

  • TDP has won the majority with 135 seats (77% of the total).  Number of seats of YSRCP came down from 151 in 2019 (86%) to 11 in 2024 (6%).  

Number of women MLAs increases

 

 

  • In 2024, 13% of elected members are women (22 out of 175).  This is higher than 2019, when 8% of members elected were women (14 out of 175).

  • Fewer elected members have a graduate degree this time as compared to 2019.  The number of members with higher secondary or diploma as the highest qualification, increased from 42 in 2019 (24%) to 50 in 2024 (29%).

Assembly gets older

  • In the new Assembly, 14 MLAs are older than 70 years. 

  • The number of elected members younger than 40 years old, reduced from 18 in 2019 (11%) to 11 in 2024 (7%).
