The Drugs (Control) Act, 1950 was enacted to ensure that certain essential imported drugs and medicines were sold at reasonable prices in the country.

The Bill repeals the Drugs (Control) Act, 1950 because price control of drugs is presently being carried out under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Therefore, the Drugs (Control) Act has become redundant.
