* Passed as The Repealing and Amending (Third) Bill, 2016

  • The Repealing and Amending (Fourth) Bill, 2015 was introduced in Lok Sabha on July 27, 2015 by the Minister of Law and Justice, Mr. D.V. Sadananda Gowda.  The Bill was passed in that House on August 6, 2015.
  • The Bill seeks to repeal 295 Acts and make minor amendments to two laws.
  • Repealing certain laws: The Bill repeals 295 laws that have been listed in the First Schedule of the Bill.  This includes over 20 Acts that were passed prior to 1947.  Further, around 200 laws are amending Acts, where the changes made by these laws have already been incorporated into the relevant principal Acts.
  • Amendment of certain laws: The Bill makes minor amendments in two Acts: (i) the Sexual Harassment of Women at the Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and (ii) the Governors (Emoluments, Allowances and Privileges) Amendment Act, 2014.
  • The Bill replaces the term ‘Local Complaints Committee’ with Local Committee, and ‘Internal Complaints Committee’ with ‘Internal Committee’ in the Sexual Harassment of Women at the Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
  • During the passage of the Bill in Lok Sabha, its title was changed to the Repealing and Amending (Third) Bill, 2015.
