The Right to Information (Amendment) Bill was passed in Lok Sabha today. The Bill changes the terms and conditions of service of the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and Information Commissioners at the Centre and in states. During the discussion on the Bill, several members asked the Bill to be referred to a Committee for further scrutiny.
The Lower House initiated discussion on the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Bill amends the 1988 Act to address issues around road safety and changes the licensing and registration mechanism. A similar Bill was introduced in 16th Lok Sabha but lapsed on the dissolution of that Lok Sabha. The Bill has been examined by a Standing Committee on Transport.
In Lok Sabha today, the National Medical Commission Bill, 2019 was introduced.
The Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was passed in Rajya Sabha. The Bill amends the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The Act provides for a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), State Human Rights Commissions (SHRC), as well as Human Rights Courts. This Bill was passed by Lok Sabha last week.
