Parliament covered substantial legislative business today, albeit amid disruptions and with minimal discussion.
In Rajya Sabha, five Bills were listed on the agenda. Of these, three Bills were taken up and passed in quick succession in less than an hour. These are:
In Lok Sabha, the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas Bill, 2021 and the Coconut Development Board (A) Bill, 2021 were passed.
Earlier in the day, the Chairman informed Rajya Sabha that a motion for annulment of IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 has been admitted for discussion. Two Members (here and here) had given notice for such discussion in the current session.
Three Members from Lok Sabha were also appointed to the Joint Parliament Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019. Four Members from Rajya Sabha now have to be appointed to fill vacancies in the Committee.
The Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers submitted its report on the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

2,588 The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs informed Lok Sabha today that 2,588 houses across the country have been converted into Affordable Rental Housing Complexes. Announced in 2020 as part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the scheme was launched to help migrant workers and urban poor have access to affordable housing. Under the ARHC scheme, 88,236 existing Government-funded vacant houses have been identified to be converted into ARHCs. |
