Disruptions and demands for discussion on price rise continued into the second week of the Monsoon Session. Proceedings began at 2 PM in Parliament today and both Houses saw repeated adjournments. In Lok Sabha, four Members were suspended for the remainder of the Session for obstructing the business of the House.
In Rajya Sabha, the Bill restricting financing of weapons of mass destruction was taken up for consideration. The discussion did not conclude and the External Affairs Minister is expected to reply to the debate tomorrow. A Calling Attention Motion on rising cases of post-COVID complications, which was on the agenda today, was not taken up.
President Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India in the Central Hall of Parliament House earlier in the day. In her first address, President Murmu discussed her journey to the position of President and highlighted a number of focus areas including environmental conservation, youth development, and women empowerment.

60,000 The Ministry of Defence informed Rajya Sabha today that, on average, 60,000 vacancies arise every year in the three Armed Forces. The Ministry added that at present, there is a shortfall of 7,799 officers and 1,08,685 soldiers in the Army; 1,446 officers and 12,151 Sailors in the Navy and 572 Officers and 5,217 Airmen in the Indian Air Force. |
