Parliament met for the 23rd Sitting of the Budget Session today.
In Lok Sabha Members called the attention of the Minister of Consumer
Affairs, Food and Public Distribution to the need to correct the price
fixation mechanism for sugarcane and other agricultural produce in the
country.
Lok Sabha then further discussed the need to have stringent legislation
to check increasing atrocities against women and children in the
country.
In Rajya Sabha Members raised a discussion on the situation arising from
the reported attempts to curb the independence of media and restrict
its freedom of expression.
There are 36 Private Member Bills listed for introduction in Lok Sabha
and 12 Private Member Bills listed for introduction in Rajya Sabha
today.
Productivity Watch
As of 6th August, Lok Sabha’s productivity during the 2014 Budget
Session has been 102% and Rajya Sabha’s productivity has been 96%.
96 Questions have been answered orally in Lok Sabha and 50 Questions
have been answered orally in Rajya Sabha. Question Hour functioned for
17 hours in Lok Sabha and 6 hours 30 minutes in Rajya Sabha.
Seven Bills have been introduced in this Session so far. Three Bills
have been passed by Parliament, while one Bill (Securities (Laws)
Amendment) has only been passed by Lok Sabha. 5 hours 22 minutes have
been spent discussing legislation in Lok Sabha in the ongoing Session,
while 6 hours 5 minutes have been spent discussing legislation in Rajya
Sabha.
