Rajya Sabha discussed and passed The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018. The Bill was passed by Lok Sabha on July 19, 2018. Various issues were raised by members during the discussion. Some points highlighted included possible violation of Article 21 (right to life) by barring a Fugitive Economic Offender from filing or defending a civil claim. Members also questioned certain provisions under the Bill that are similar to existing laws. Further, unlike the CrPC, 1973, this Bill does not require a search warrant or presence of a witnesses to conduct a search of a premises. For more details on these issues, please see our analysis of the Bill. We also explain these issues in a short video.
Lok Sabha had a short duration discussion on the flood and drought situation in various parts of the country.
