The Law and Justice Minister, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad moved the Triple Talaq Bill for consideration and passing in the Upper House. Before taking up the Bill for discussion, members of the Opposition urged that it should be referred to a Select Committee for examination. Opposition members stated that while they support the intent of the Bill – declaring triple talaq as void and illegal, it should undergo committee scrutiny to remove any lacuna that the Bill in its current form may entail.
